He recently confirmed that he pocketed a whopping $50million to reprise his role as Tony Stark in the blockbuster Iron Man 3. But that doesn't mean that Robert Downey Jr won't take on extra work for the cash. Away from the staggering sets and special effects of his movie career, the 48-year-old actor has been spotted filming a commercial in Miami, Florida, involving a yacht covered in tin foil. The product of the mystery advert has been kept under wraps, although Robert appears to be endorsing the household product tin foil. It will be a nice little earner for the actor who has an estimated wealth of $85 million dollars. Robert was recently announced as the voice-over for a series new adverts for Nissan, described as a celebration of their 'innovative' products. The Oscar-nominated actor hasn't shied away from lending his talents to other advertisements in the past either. In 2012, Robert was named as the new voice of Planter's icon 'Mr. Peanut' in a series of adverts by Kraft Foods. It's hard to believe that Robert would be inclined to participate in the endorsements, given his hefty sum for his day job. But Robert recently poured doubt over his future playing Tony Stark in an interview with Empire Magazine. He said: 'I feel that the first time I played Tony, I did it best. Sorry! The affinity with Tony now is: How do you sustain something? I'm not stupid, I like to play ball, I love the company, I love the character, and the business side of things, I'm not too picky about that either.' He added: 'Let’s see what happens. I take the audience very seriously – I feel bad when I see folks doing movies and the audience is like, ‘Don’t do that anymore.’ I don’t have to overstay my welcome…' |

This is the billion-dollar question.
With Iron Man 3 reaching that number at the global box office, a fourth installment would seem to be a no-brainer. Except… Robert Downey Jr.’s contractual obligations have all been filled, and though everyone expects him to return for Avengers 2, there’s no guarantee beyond that. And if we did get another Iron Man movie, it would be many years away — and Downey himself acknowledges that, at 48, he’s not getting any younger. “I’d go start another one tomorrow, but it’s not tomorrow,” Downey tells EW. “And there are a lot of other considerations. But I also don’t like the idea of leaving people hanging or leaving people in the lurch.” Meanwhile, he also has the Warner Bros. Sherlock Holmes movies, which could have another installment, and he would like to try out an entirely new character. “My intent is to launch another franchise, independent of any that I can even imagine right now,” Downey said. “My intent is to dominate the playing field for as long as I can, with my own challenges, with myself.” That doesn’t leave much room for a return to Tony Stark, but it doesn’t rule out a return in a few years either. Feige says Marvel Studios is talking with Downey about if and when he could reprise the character. But if it doesn’t happen, we could find ourselves with a reboot. It has happened before, though rarely with a character so singularly identified with one actor. “I believe there will be a fourth Iron Man film and a fifth and a sixth and a 10th and a 20th,” the producer says. “I see no reason why Tony Stark can’t be as evergreen as James Bond. Or Batman for that matter. Or Spider-Man. I think Iron Man is a character just like that.” |

We knew it would be big, but did anyone really think it would be this big? After just 25 days on release, Marvel's Iron Man 3 has become the first film of 2013 to cross $1 billion at the global box office, and only the 16th film in history to achieve that feat.
As of today the Shane Black-directed solo sequel is now the fourth biggest comic book movie of all time behind The Avengers ($1.511 billion), The Dark Knight Rises ($1.084 billion) and The Dark Knight ($1.004 billion). It looks certain to surpass both Dark Knight films and go on to crack the all time top ten, with tenth place currently occupied by Pixar's Toy Story 3 on $1.063 billion, and could even end up occupying a spot in the top five. Iron Man 3 stars Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Don Cheadle as Rhodey / War Machine, Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian, Rebecca Hall as Maya Hansen, James Badge Dale as Savin, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan and Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin. Shane Black's Iron Man 3 has become the No. 2 superhero pic of all time at the international box office with $990.5 million in global ticket sales.
From Disney and Marvel Studios, the threequel is bested only by fellow Marvel title The Avengers, which took in $1.5 billion last summer and also stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. Iron Man 3 hits another milestone on Thursday when it crosses the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office and jumps the $300 million mark in North America. Through Wednesday, its domestic total was $298.6 million. The tentpole has earned $691.9 million so far internationally, putting it at No. 11 on the list of top-grossing films. In terms of global standing, Iron Man 3 has now surpassed Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End ($963 million), Jurassic Park ($967 million) and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone ($975 million) to become the 16th highest-grossing film of all time. After North America, Iron Man 3 has taken in the most in China ($102.4 million), followed by Korea ($55.6 million), U.K. ($49.7 million), Mexico ($43.6 million) and Russia ($40.2 million). Iron Man 3 faces competition this weekend in North America and select territories from Star Trek Into Darkness, which opens Thursday domestically. And on Wednesday, Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby narrowly edged past Iron Man 3 ($3.9 million versus $3.5 million) to top the domestic chart. Gatsby has earned $63.3 million in its first six days. |

Scarlett Johansson has signed up for a supporting role in Jon Favreau’s Chef, Aldamisa, which is repping the film as Cannes, announced Wednesday. The film, written, directed and starring Favreau, will also star Robert Downey Jr., Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo and Bobby Cannavale.
"Scarlett is a tremendous talent and I'm honored to be collaborating with her again. I'm so fortunate to be working with such a fine ensemble," said Favreau in a statement. Favreau directed Iron Man 2, which starred Johansson as Natasha Romanoff. Chef will also reunite Johansson and Favreau with Iron Man star Downey, who also starred in Avengers with Johansson. The film, based on Favreau’s original idea, follows a man, Carl Casper (Favreau), who loses his chef job and cooks up a food truck business in hopes of reestablishing his artistic promise. At the same time, he tries to reconnect with his estranged family. Johansson will play a woman named Molly, a restaurant manager and love interest of Favreau’s character. Karen Gilchrist and Aldamisa Co-Chairman Sergei Bespalov are producing. Aldamisa is financing along with Kilburn Media and Mark Manuel. Production begins on July 8 in Los Angeles. |

Robert Downey Jr. cleans up nicely.
The tuxedo-wearing actor was not photographed Saturday shooting a wedding scene for an upcoming movie. Rather, the Iron Man 3 star was said to be actually attending a pal's nuptials in the role of best man. While we're used to seeing Downey stylishly scruffy and sometimes even in lederhosen, the penguin suit—accessorized with a lily boutonnière—was sort of a nice, simple change. And, judging by the pair of dress shoes the guy next to him is holding rather than wearing, perhaps Downey wasn't the only one who doesn't readily say I-do to traditional fancy footwear. But at least he was wearing shiny leather sneakers. GALLERY LINKS: [x001] Candids > 2013 > May 13 - Robert Suits Up as Best Man at Friend's Wedding |

Even Hollywood megastars are sometimes eager to work on the cheap because they can accept to make profits based on the success of the film. Don’t be surprised if Jon Favreau‘s indie comedy Chef meets these requirements.
New report says Robert Downey Jr. will team up again with his Iron Man director and has joined the ensemble cast of his next project that’s being sold at Cannes next week. Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo and Bobby Cannavale were previously set to headline. Favreau will star as a chef who quits his job and starts a food truck to ‘reclaim his artistic promise.’ Vergara is attached to join Favreau as his character’s ex-wife, while Boardwalk Empire actor Cannavale is in talks to also board the project as a sous-chef. No word yet on Downey Jr.’s role. RDJ and Favreau can be currently seen in the third installment of the Iron Man franchise. Chef (not to be confused with the movie Bradley Cooper is attached to) is set to start production in Los Angeles, July 8th, 2013. |

“Moral certainty is always a sign of cultural inferiority. The more uncivilized the man, the surer he is that he knows precisely what is right and what is wrong. The truly civilized man is always skeptical and tolerant, in this field as in all others. His culture is based on ‘I am not too sure.’” -H.L. Mencken
Henry Louis Mencken and Robert Downey Jr. did not cross paths in life (though it’s fun to imagine that conversation), but the essayist’s quote is an apt description of the actor’s approach to life. Downey’s restless intelligence is reflected in his ability to express several contradictory points of view simultaneously, making sense all the while. He can be direct one moment and elusive the next, often spinning off on seemingly unrelated tangents. But like watching a juggler on a wire, being in Downey’s presence is a riveting experience. For someone who almost from the outset was deemed “the greatest actor of his generation”, the majority of Robert Downey, Jr.’s career has been filled with big commercial flops, “critically acclaimed” flops, very public struggles with drugs and more than a little jail time – all of which have landed him squarely in some of the biggest blockbuster films in recent history. It’s an unlikely hero story, but then Robert Downey Jr. is an unlikely hero. |

Robert Downey Jr. on Jimmy Kimmel |

If you ask Robert Downey Jr., just because Iron Man 3 raked it in at the box office last weekend doesn't mean a sequel's a sure thing. So, after noting the "economy really is weird" and hoping to do something to nudge Marvel along, the Hollywood star joked on Jimmy Kimmel Live Tuesday night that he's launching an Iron Man 4 Kickstarter campaign.
"I wasn't getting a lot of support, and a buddy told me there's this Kickstarter thing. So if you wanna see a sequel, go to Kickstarter.com and put in your vote," Downey cracked. "Every little bit helps." "You can never have too many Iron Men," quipped Kimmel. Or bucks for that matter. Since hitting theaters last Friday, Iron Man 3 has earned a whopping $175.3 million domestically, scoring the second biggest opening weekend of all time behind last year's The Avengers. All told, its worldwide haul now tops $711 million - pretty impressive for a threequel. |
